Be your own personal shopper and brand yourself with the Atoti Bakuba bag – made for the modern woman who isn’t afraid to own her own style.
Handcrafted from Kuba, or Bakuba cloth. What is kuba cloth? It is hand woven raffia textile fabric from the DRC. Using the strands from raffia palm leaves it is an amazing hand crafted applique fabric with geometric patterns. Although this tradition is believed to be ancient, the oldest surviving examples of the cloth are dated back to the seventeenth century. Men weave the fabric out of raffia fibers, from a palm plant, and women apply colorful tufts in bold geometric designs. An entire social group is involved in the production of the cloth, from gathering the fibers, weaving the cloth, dyeing the decorative strands, to applying the embroidery, appliqué, or patchwork.
By owning a Bakuba cloth bag you will be sharing in the culture of these creative artists. Each piece of Bakuba cloth is absolutely unique, a real one-of-a kind.
