Changing the world, in style: Feminists and fashion. Chanel, Mrs.O & 100 other women

Posted by Mary Bosibori on

Do the character attributes that make good leaders have anything to do with those that determine a strong sense of personal style?

We learned about Feminists in Fashion when Founding Director, Jacqueline Stein, attended our London event. The organisation aims to create a global archive of feminist women leaders who are changing the world in extraordinary ways and to dispel the idea that feminist women cannot look and feel fabulous while doing their change-making work. That it doesn’t have to be one or the other.

They have some great projects in the works including “From Docs to Dior: Around the World in 100 Women” – a coffee table-style book that will feature 100 women from different parts of the world who are making a positive impact in their communities and are doing it with great style. Feminists in Fashion are still taking applications (until Friday January 13th, 2012. Download the application form here.)

Oscar de la Renta once said, “the essence of style is how you live your life.”

It’s very easy to fixate on the visual but just think of how a confident woman can make the most simple outfit look amazing, just by how she carries herself. And who she is inside. Style is about much more than what we put on, even though fashion can be an effective way of expressing who we are.
