MAGIK GRACEAdèle Dejak moved to Nairobi in 2005, where she pursued her artistic interests by painting. She then turned her attention to jewellery design. At first it was just a sideline but a chance meeting at a dinner party with an organiser of one of Kenya’s most popular design and craft shows admired one of her creations and encouraged her to start a business. Thus, Magik Grace Art and Design Ltd was founded in 2005. From semi-abstract objects on canvas, she moved to the abstract creation of shapes to wear. She is always striving to give shape to a style reminiscent of the most essential cutting-edge contemporary designs; by resorting to European and African materials which she collects during her travels. Having a background in typographic design has helped her create the form and structure to her jewellery. While in Kenya Adèle became fascinated with ebony, horn and bone. Adèle finds the natural colours and beauty of horn a natural art form and has experimented with different techniques in creating unique horn and bone shapes. These are then transformed into stunning pieces when refined by her desire to enhance a woman's beauty through the discretion of essential shapes. Adèle’s creations are in continuous development, moulding together her never-ending quest for an essential artifact which would enhance the personality of the woman who wears it. Adèle set up shop in Nairobi at the Village Market in 2009 and in Lamu. She combines her restless creativity with contemporary materials to produce iconic and stunning body art that simply cannot go unnoticed. |
