This year’s Tribal Chic show at Tribe Hotel in Nairobi, Kenya was co-presented by American arts & entertainment company, GenArt, as the first order of business for their new GenArt Global initiative. GenArt CEO Marc Lotenberg and the new Director of GenArt Global, Martine Bury, were in attendance, along with Hollywood actress Emmanuelle Chriqui who fell in love with our Bella snake cuff.

It was a fabulous and totally memorable evening and not only because we were launching our new collection – Rogo. A huge thanks to our beautiful models, to our team, to the organisers, stylists, choreographers and to everyone who came along to support, including the Rogo family whom our new collection is named after!

It’s official! We launched our Rogo Collection at Tribal Chic 2012 at Tribe Hotel in Nairobi, Kenya. It was an amazing night and we’ll be sharing some of the highlights later on this week. If you’re feeling impatient, head on over to our Facebook page for several photos from the night.

For now, we thought we’d treat you with a behind the scenes video from our Rogo Collection Photoshoot. A huge thanks to Marco Ballerini (who shot and cut the video), still photographer Damiano Rossi, models Amito Stacie “Queen” and Sandrah Kim K., stylist Pierra Akwero and last but not least, our crew of Abdul Ddungu Kamanyire, Esther & Vinny.

Adèle reconstructed the firewood heaps in her garden for the shoot and injected a rough, natural, used, warm feel by adding old used sacks.

Adèle and Franca

Vogue Italia editor, Franca Sozzani, recently visited East Africa as part of her Fashion4Development project and Adèle had the pleasure of accompanying Franca and her team during their various visits.

Franca visited local designers including Edward from Catherine & Sons, Stella, Pamela, Layla Shaw and Santa of Arapapa. She also visited with the Queen of Buganda, Silvia Naginda and First Lady Janet Museveni.

A fashion show was organised in her honour at the residence of entrepreneur, Charles Mbire. Featuring designs by Santa of Arapapa and Xenson, the show was choreographed by South Africa’s Jan Malan. Gossip newspaper, Red Pepper, got carried away with Franca’s visit and invented a story! Apparently Charles was throwing a party for his wife “Franco Suzani”. Which led Adèle to ask the question – can you have glamour without wild gossip?

Adèle organised a dinner party in Franca’s honour at her home in Kampala and invited Ugandan designers, top model, stylists, artists and more.

Marco, here with his girlfriend Lillian, played a huge role in helping organise Franca's trip.

Nairobi highlights

Franca stayed at Tribe Hotel (where we’ll be launching our Rogo collection next week!). She met some of Kenya’s best designers including  Le Collane di Betta, John Kaveke, Kiko Romeo, Kooroo, Patricia Mbela, MooCow.

Osteria del Chianti hosted an amazing dinner in Franca’s honour, bringing together a great group of designers, models and Kenyan personalities.

All in all it was a fantastic time!

The Rogo Collection encapsulates Adèle’s vision where style and substance effortlessly go together. It is a collection that encourages women to be unapologetic in embracing and celebrating their multidimensional nature.

The collection features jewellery, bags and belts made from materials including recycled aluminium, recycled brass, recycled denim, leather, horn, Kuba cloth and wax print fabric. Exclusively handmade, the designs reinterpret traditional African handicraft and incorporate modern Western influences, reflecting Adèle’s heritage and experience.

All pieces are made by skilled local artisans at the Adèle Dejak workshop in Nairobi, Kenya and expert craftspeople from around East Africa.

All in a name

The name was inspired by Elizabeth and Janice Rogo, two lovely ladies and serious fashionistas who love African jewellery and accessories. They have become great ambassadors of our work, in Kenya and overseas, since discovering our Westgate boutique last year. We’re happy to honour them by launching this new collection in their name.

A little bit fishy

The collection features fish armbands, bracelets, pendants, necklaces as well as a show-stopping fish skin bag which is available by special order only. A few years ago, Prada had a wonderful collection with fish silhouettes on dresses and skirts. Adèle loved the shapes and mulled over how she might incorporate fish in her own designs. When she moved to Kampala, where fish is a major part of the local diet, she was reminded of the idea. (The images you see here were inspired by the sights at Kampala’s Ggaba fish market – look out for more on this next week.)

Home and away

Our Nairobi fans will be able to enjoy launch events and see the Rogo designs in person, throughout the weekend from 4th-6th May at our Village Market and Westgate outlets. Our international fans will be able to partake when our online shop opens in the next few weeks. Subscribe to our mailing list for updates on both of these highlights! Boutique Nairobi Hotel, Tribe, is gearing up for their annual Tribal Chic fashion show on Saturday May 5th. Not only will we be participating once again but, we will also be launching our brand new Rogo collection! We’re so excited about unveiling what we’ve been so busy working on for the past few months.

Usually reserved for fierce femmes, today’s love to adorn post is dedicated to the undoubtedly masculine musician, Seal (full name Seal Henry Olusegun Olumide Adeola Samuel).

Adèle is a fan of the “Kiss from a Rose” singer  – “I love his voice and he is a great songwriter; very deep meaningful lyrics.”

Above are some pendants (and one necklace) we’d style him in if we had the chance. Yes, men can wear Adèle Dejak too!
